One night, my daughter told me she wished she could be a grown-up. She imagined all the freedom adults get—staying up late, eating candy, no homework.
I told her that yes, being a grown-up is wonderful in many ways, but one of the best parts of being a kid is all the time you get to spend playing.
The truth is, many of us grown-ups forgot how to play.

As kids, play comes naturally— We run, laugh, climb, jump, and create without hesitation. But somewhere along the way, as we step into adulthood, play often gets replaced with responsibility, productivity, and performance.
So here’s your reminder: Play isn’t just for kids.
In fact, the benefits of play for adults are powerful—especially when it comes to nervous system support, stress relief, and real-life healing.

This summer, I made the conscious decision to choose play.
☀️ Jumping in the pool—even if it meant getting my hair wet.
☀️ Running through sprinklers and making mud pies.
☀️ Dancing in the rain and letting myself be silly.
☀️ Sitting down for board games instead of scrolling on my phone.
And can you guess what happened?
I laughed more, connected more deeply, felt lighter, and rediscovered childlike wonder.
Choosing play didn’t just create sweet memories…it expanded my nervous system’s ability to regulate and increased my resilience.

Inviting More Play Into Your Life
If play feels out of reach, start small. Notice the tiny invitations throughout your day:
Balance on the curb while taking a walk.
Splash in puddles after a rain storm.
Put on your favorite song and dance in the kitchen.
Join your kids (or friends) in a silly game.
Laugh freely, even if it feels awkward at first.
Suddenly, everything shifted. The reality of fear was right in front of us. My kids had to process it, and so did I.
Play doesn’t have to look big or planned. It’s about saying yes to the little sparks of joy that remind you you’re alive.
