Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it’s essential. For me there are four key areas of my health I have to prioritize in order to feel truly healthy.
Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it’s essential. For me there are four key areas of my health I have to prioritize in order to feel truly healthy.

#1 Physical Health

Sleep, movement, and nourishment aren't luxuries--they are the foundation of well-being. My physical health has not been my top priority the last few years, but this year I want to focus on fueling my body with nutrient-dense foods, building strength, and prioritizing sleep. I have three young kids, and I want to be able to keep up with them for as long as possible.

#2 Mental Health

Mental health cannot be ignored or pushed aside until it's convenient to address. Life is too heavy to carry alone, and finding someone to talk to--a therapist, coach, or trusted friend--makes all the difference. We often believe we're the only ones struggling but the truth is we all face challenges. sharing those burdens makes them lighter. We were not meant to do this life alone.

#3 Emotional Health

Emotional health is something I've been working on deeply Emotional health is about learning to embrace all of your feelings--even the hard ones. For me, anger has been particularly challenging. I've often suppressed it, believing it wasn't compatible with being kind or gentle. But, the past few years have brought circumstances that made me undeniably angry, and I've ;earned to channel that anger into action, using it to fuel my passion for making the world a better place for my children.

#4 Spiritual Health

The belief in something bigger than yourself. For me, my faith in God is my anchor. I have to spend time with God in prayer. When I stop making time to listen and be still, I start to flounder and lose my focus. The world starts to feel too big and overwhelming, and I have a hard time knowing where to go next. HIs grace and never-ending love give meaning to my days, comfort to my pain, and hope for tomorrow.

I want to acknowledge that sometimes life requires us to prioritize one area of our health over another. For me, the last few years have been a season where my physical health couldn't be my top priority because I needed to focus on my mental and emotional well-being. It's okay to prioritize one aspect of your health over another when needed. That being said, take time every now and then to reassess and see if your priorities or life circumstances have shifted. Different seasons call for attention in different areas, so be open to adjusting your focus to meet your personal needs.

How have you been prioritizing your health lately?
